As many of you know, the scorching summer heat can be miserable, but if you take the time to cool off the old fashioned way- it can be quite enjoyable. While this certainly hasn’t been the first pool visit for Eva Marie, it was a cute one.
Eva and Daddy getting ready to swim
Eva in the pool with a mysterious floating donut device that grants the wearer the ability to float harmlessly above this strange water substance.
Eva working on her backstroke (i.e. kicking)
Julia and Eva hanging in the pool. There was a hunky one and a half year old boy checking the chicks out.
Out of the pool and toweling off. All good things come to an end.
Stander bun [on Mommy (on the pool's porch swing)].
Smiling Eva after a hard day splashing and playing in the pool.

Continuing where we left off yesterday with some new pictures of Eva’s Baptism from Grandma’s camera. Enjoy…
Eva can’t wait for the holy water.
Here’s the group ready for action- (Left to Right) Father Steven Bell, Erica, Kyle, Kirk, Julia, and little Eva Marie.
Celebrate good times- come on!!!
A contemplative Eva Marie ponders the magnitude of the occasion (and is sleepy).
A quick obligatory shot of the family ( I mean you always take a picture of the group at any event. What’s the deal with that? I suppose it’s better than taking attendance)

Eva was baptized today at St. Austin’s Catholic Church, and the Sweeney clan came out in full force. Thanks all for supporting Eva on this big day. In attendance were Grandma, Grandpa, Godfather/Uncle Kirk, Aunt Heather, Cousins Sara and Shawn, God-mom Erica Russell with Sir Alisdair McKivben, published author and comedienne Emma Holder, and local videophile Andy Petruzzo. We wanted to throw a couple of pictures up from the event. So here it goes- with witty captions written by yours truly (Kyle).
Dad and Eva on the steps of the altar after all the blessing had gone down.
Eva being baptized at St. Austin’s and loving every minute of it.
Uncle Kirk (always trying to start up some trouble) gave Eva the box to the official baptism candle.
The always lively master of ceremony, Father Steven Bell, telling Julia that Eva Marie was the best baptismee (or person being baptized).
Eva eating the candle’s official candle holding box-ness. Thanks Kirk.

On the morning of April 9, 2010 at approximately 8:57:32, Eva Marie Sweeney entered the ranks of the verbal. Up to this point, we had certainly received our fair share of babbles from the young orator: “glabababa”, “alllalalalalala”, “phhhffft” (with and without bubbles). But never before had sounds exited her mouth which could in good faith be construed by the adult ear as a stand-alone word. Distinct from the fourth-attempt victory of her famous first sit, Eva said her word most distinctly and convincingly on the undocumented first try. But as soon as she said it we grabbed the iPhone and started recording, and what followed was recorded for posterity right here:

We wanted to get a quick post with five pictures (of our 362 pooled album) from our Dallas/Easter adventure.
Eva Marie really didn’t know what to make of the egg hunt. Shawn was the only really active participant- leaving Saraphina and Eva to sit on the grass and absorb some Vitamin D.
The cousins were set up for more than a few group photos- each more adorable than the last. The picture was taken courtesy of Chris’ iPhone. It best encapsulates the group more so than any other picture taken this weekend.
The girls (as always) played well together. This pairing of Father/Daughter chicken was too much to pass up.
The shot contains Eva Marie in her Sunday’s Best. Naturally, the photo party continued after church and continued into the afternoon.
All and all a pretty far out weekend for our little Eva Marie. More pictures to come….

With the beautiful weather we have been having this week, Eva Marie decided she’d had quite enough of the apartment and wanted to take a walk out to our beloved swing overlooking the hills of West Austin.
We had a wonderful time swinging gently on the windy hill. Eva played some SuperBaby, extra-fun style thanks to the added swinging motion.
In classic Eva Marie fashion, she spent a good bit of time sitting back, relaxing, and nomming on her hand. As evidenced from the look of anxious anticipation on her face, her hand here was mere milliseconds from being captured by her mouth.
In the name of muscle development, babies are supposed to spend some time each day playing on their stomachs (“Tummy Time”). Eva Marie does not enjoy this one bit, and I can’t really blame her – being plopped face first onto a brightly colored play mat and lying pinned there by the weight of my own disproportionately large skull does not sound like much fun at all! However, the beautiful view (and use of Mom as a play mat) allowed Eva Marie to become distracted enough to do some serious baby pushups.
Go girl, go!

Eva Marie has been reaching for our glasses, cans, and other drinking devices quite a bit lately- so we figured what a great time to see what she can do solo with her first sippy cup.
At first, she believed the sippy cup to be little more than a large chew toy for her to “nom” on. For a teething baby there is no shortage of items in the apartment that become nom-ed: fingers, toes, stuffed animals, teething rings, sleeves, socks, toys, blankets, books, feet, straps, noses, knuckles, iPhones, iPods, remotes, Playstation controllers, BluRays, cameras, keys, Kyle’s USS Enterprise replica – you get the idea.
Even during normal bottle feeding she’s attempted to become more independent by holding her hands up as if she were holding the bottle herself.
She eventually got the hang of it. We started with water in the cup to practice, but upgraded to milk because she was hungry.
It may be awhile before she’s a drinking pro, but it was good to get a little experience under her baby-sized belt.
